Editing Suite Flushing Out

I've now done the log and capture on 6 of the 23 tapes from this summer. In the last few days I've digitized Victor's interview and the sports league meeting at the center of the controversy about Zezito over this past summer, as well as various other things.

I also placed an order for a 2 TeraByte eSata raid system from Sonnet, and I'm having 600 feet of old S16 stock footage that I've never put through telecine sent to Bonolabs to do 1 more round of testing before having the 5000 feet from Zambia telecined. Spypost in SF is now able to deliver product on hard drive, but only by laying off to HDcam and then digitizing from tape, which introduces all of HDcam's artifacting into the process, which is undesirable, even though their Spirit is a great machine. Unless something happens with this 600 feet I'm unhappy with, I will be sending the Zambia footage to Bonolabs.

It also seems that I'm going to be without a replacement lens for my stolen 9.5mm Zeiss. We just couldn't find one available for purchase. That series of lenses has been discontinued by Zeiss, and the new Ultra 16 lenses that will replace them - the first new Zeiss superspeeds for S16 in 30 years - are not going to be available for some time yet. The only comparable option available was a Cooke 9.5mm SK4, and at $13,700, it was more than my insurance company was willing to spend. They are just going to write me a check instead of replacing the lens. Fortunately the timing on this will work out to cover the new storage for my editing suite and the film telecine.

With everything forging ahead, I hope to bring odell to Santa Monica in October so we can get rough cut 2 out before Thanksgiving.

Santa Monica Move

A quick note..
I've moved into my new home in Santa Monica. I've got my editing suite back out of the boxes (as of 2 days ago), and I've finally got to work on digitizing the tapes from this past summer (or winter, in Zambia). Finished the tapes from our arrival and World Refugee Day so far.
I've also received a D70s from my insurance company to replace the D70 that was stolen. Still waiting on the outcome for the Zeiss lens, but hopefully it will come together in the next couple of weeks.
